Pattern interrupts for short-form video that serve the story
Use changes in image, sound, scale, or information to renew attention without turning every second into unrelated visual noise.
The useful principle
A pattern interrupt works because the viewer notices a meaningful change. That change can be visual, verbal, sonic, or structural, but it should arrive when the current beat has become predictable or when the story changes direction.
Random movement can disguise a weak idea for a moment, yet it rarely improves understanding. The useful question is not ‘what can change now?’ but ‘what has changed for the viewer, and how can the form reveal it?’
Try it in three steps
- Let the current beat become legible first.
- Change the form when the information changes.
- Return quickly to the central question.
