How to make a video more useful to share
Give viewers a clear social reason to pass the idea on: it helps someone, expresses something they believe, or starts a worthwhile conversation.
The useful principle
People share for another person, not for an algorithm. A video becomes more shareable when the sender can imagine who needs it and what sending it communicates. Utility, recognition, surprise, and identity can all create that reason.
Make the central idea easy to carry. A specific observation or practical test is easier to send than a collection of unrelated tips. The recipient should understand why it reached them without needing extra explanation.
Try it in three steps
- Identify the person a viewer might send it to.
- Make one useful idea easy to repeat.
- Let the content earn the share before asking for it.
